School description
St Bernard's College is a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice Tradition with an enrolment of approximately 1,300 boys. Our College motto is 'Discere et Agere' meaning 'to learn and to do'. This is reflected in our emphasis on academic excellence and practical skills. At the core of our curriculum is an expectation that boys will grow in an informed appreciation of their Catholic faith and develop the capacity and desire to practice it. We have a strong focus on social justice and offer various opportunities students to be active in this area. We have a strong emphasis on literacy promoted across all KLAs. At senior level we offer a strong VCAL program to complement our VCE offerings and we provide parallel programs for students with special needs from Years 9 to11. Our curriculum is supported by an extensive co-curricular program including high quality music, performing arts and sporting programs. We encourage and expect that families will actively support their son's education. The College operates as two campuses (Years 7 to 9 and Years 10 to 12) in West Essendon and we operate a third campus at Santa Monica near Lorne where each Year 9 student undertakes a four week program.
