School description

Mount Scopus Memorial College has been serving the Jewish community of Melbourne since 1949. The College mission is to promote excellence in learning and academic achievement. Scopus is an IB World School, offering the Primary and Middle Years Programs, with a focus on learning through inquiry and global awareness; developing the student's whole personality with a wide range of activities, inside and outside of the classroom; providing Jewish learning, values, experiences, within a Modern Orthodox and Zionist framework that enables each student to make an informed choice as to the meaning of their Jewish identity; and engendering values, knowledge and skills so that students can play their full part in their communities - as members of the College, as Jews, as Australians and as citizens of the World. A large proportion of Scopus students achieve very high scores in VCE (with the College offering a wide range of VCE options including many VET subjects), gaining entry to the University course of their choice. Indeed Scopus is regularly amongst the top ten Victorian schools in VCE achievement. In addition our students find a variety of ways to contribute to the Jewish life of the College and to the Jewish and wider community. The College is also particularly strong in sport and the Performing Arts, and provides opportunities for student leadership in many areas within the school.
